Bad Asian

I love to eat sushi. I generally rank sushi up there among my most favorite foods. Not only do I find sushi delectable, but–depending on the chosen variety–it’s packed with nutrients, antioxidants, and excessive amounts cannot really do any harm to my waistline. I tend to think of sushi outings like social smoking–addictive and the more people present, the more fun it is.

There is one drawback: I lack the necessary hand coordination to chopstick efficiently. My friends call me the Bad Asian. I love Asian food and (reading about) Asian culture, but I have no idea how to put any of it into practical use. I found this handy little flier and made several wallet-sized copies to carry around with me and it basically gives me a license to eat sushi my hands:

Etiquette for Sushi

I use it like a public breastfeeding card–I whip it out at the first sign of scrutiny! Besides, I’m sure we can all learn a lot from this PSA on sushi.

I highly commend sushi spots that require minimal interaction with waitstaff and maximum appetite satisfaction in infinite quantities. These spots typically generate the highest denominations that my wallet carries around for their tip jars (see Hamiltons. I work in tech support.) I prefer places where sushi is wheeled around the restaurant on conveyor belts (the closest one I have found near me is close to Washington, D.C.!) This toy, brought to us by the HobbyMedia site, brings these comforts closer to home!

Sushi Train

This toy combines my kid’s love of trains with my love of sushi!! Now, if only I can hire that really awesome chef from Daikichi down the street….

I must point out the blatant violation of sushi etiquette in the above picture. How dare those kinds use the side you put in your mouth to pick from the community train!!

  1. If you are a bad asian what does that make me? I’m african and I can not only use chops sticks with my right hand easily but I can use them with my left hand as well. Still I’m not a master. I once saw an old Asian guy cutting stuff up with his chopsticks. So great was the pinching action that nothing less than meat could hold up against it.
