It will be ten years before we see snow like this.

January 31st, 2010

Snow is beautiful to look at and even more fun to play in. It doesn’t snow here often, but every five years or so, we get a good solid snowfall that sticks. This “Blizzard of 2010″ happens to be my son’s first snow. In order to make this the most fun and memorable first snow ever, we packed in the fun snow activities! Here are some pictures.

Snow Angel
Snow angel made by my angel. Of course the first thing he wanted to do with the snow was lay in it!

Icicles look like Swords
It was cold enough for icicles to form on top of the house. The bushes even had some really neat ones hanging from them. These two found that icicles resemble lightsabers. Boys will be boys.

Snowman
Every winter of my son’s life I had been looking forward to building a snowman with him, but we only got the powdery stuff this year. It makes snowmen hard to build and my boy wasn’t interested in working with the snow!

Snowballs
He did, however, find snowball fighting entertaining!

My snowman
I built a snowman anyway.

Trashy, the snow man.
Johnny made me a snowman to make me happy. :)

My boyst
My favorite picture of my boys.

It's only fun until someone loses an eye.

Colonial Williamsburg Grand Illumination

December 11th, 2009

Of the all beautiful sites to see this Christmas season, the Grand Illumination [6 December 2009] was by far the most magical. It may have been because I have never been to one, it may be due to my love of historic Colonial Williamsburg, but in any case, it was a night to remember. The economic recession led to company budget cuts and the Christmas Party essentially got nixed from the budget. Several co-workers thought it would be a good idea to plan our own event and we decided on dinner and the Williamsburg Grand Illumination. Colonial Williamsburg always kicks off the Holiday season by following an English tradition of placing white candles in the windows of all the homes and public businesses downtown. The town decorates the square in lights and the most elegant Christmas trees in the entire state. They hold a great festival with controlled bonfires and talented carolers. At 6:00pm, the white candles in the windows are simultaneously lit and the town sets off fireworks in front of the Governor’s Palace.

Despite the biting cold of 29 degree weather, my sweaterdress, boots, leggings, and miles of walking, I had an amazing time. The group of people I went with (including the love of my life) were hilariously entertaining and fun! There were plenty of photo opportunities, though I neglected to bring my camera (I wanted to just enjoy the moment.) I did happen to take some amateur video of the light show from my G1. We had a great standing place where we could see all three set-off points simultaneously. Hit the jump for the videos:

LOLDogs

December 11th, 2009

Khalista has gotten comfortable in our home, which also means she’s bored and a little anxious. So when the boo and I leave for work, we keep her in the kitchen, where there’s lots of room, an easy-clean linoleum floor, food, water, and chew toys galore. Last night, I came home to this scene:

The boyfriend compares us to jailors.

I can haz hot dog plz?
